3½ Questions about the start of the trial phase of the Digital Learning Campus - Lernort Lübeck

On July 16, 2024, the trial phase of the Digital Learning Campus Lübeck started in the transition house in the heart of the Hanseatic city of Lübeck. Under the direction of Juleka Schulte-Ostermann, M.A., educational scientist and graduate criminologist, the first of seven partners - the Lübeck University of Applied Sciences, the Lübeck University of Music, the Offene Kanal and the UKSH Academy - offered fascinating future technologies to touch and try out. Visitors of all ages and educational levels were able to experience the robot arm and the 360° science dome of the TH Lübeck, digital experiments of the Lübeck University of Music and VR educational offers of the UKSH Academy and the Open Channel free of charge and barrier-free.

Who are you and what kind of event was it?

I am Juleka Schulte-Ostermann, M.A. educational scientist, graduate criminologist and work at the Technische Hochschule Lübeck, Institut für Interaktive Systeme (ISy), as project manager of the Digital Learning Campus - Lernort Lübeck and as project developer. On July 16, 2024, the trial phase of the Digital Learning Campus-Learning Location Lübeck began in the Übergangshaus, right in the center of the Hanseatic City of Lübeck. The first of seven partners of the Digital Learning Campus - Lernort Lübeck, Technische Hochschule Lübeck, Musikhochschule Lübeck, Offene Kanal Lübeck and UKSH Akademie, offered children from Lübeck's schools, students, company employees and all interested parties of all ages and educational levels exciting future technologies to touch and try out free of charge and without barriers:

The robot arm and the 360° science dome of the Technische Hochschule Lübeck, digital experiments of the Lübeck University of Music as well as educational offers with VR glasses of the UKSH Akademie and the Offener Kanal Lübeck.

What did you take away from the event?

What I took away from the event was the confirmation that digital topics of the future and technologies that you can touch and try out inspire people of all ages and educational levels. I'm looking forward to expanding our educational programs at the transition house over the course of 2024 and offering them at other learning locations in Lübeck and Bad Oldesloe so that we can provide many more people with diverse learning experiences. I am also looking forward to the launch of the Digital Learning Campus Schleswig-Holstein's digital learning and collaboration platform, the Digital Learning Campus Hub, in the fall. This platform will link the numerous physical learning and collaboration locations of the four university locations in Schleswig-Holstein and expand the offerings of the learning locations with digital components.

Name a highlight from the event

My personal highlights of the event were the cross-generational interest of the visitors in the diverse digital educational offerings and the enthusiasm of the colleagues from the network partners, who made many interactive experiences possible for the visitors.I was particularly impressed by four younger schoolchildren aged around 12 or 13, who were so enthusiastic about the offerings in the 360° science dome that they stayed for more than an hour with great enthusiasm so as not to miss a single detail of the learning experience.
