Summer School
Changing Cities Lab + Forum
Join from 15 to 25 July 2024 for the first session of Changing Cities - an International Summer School for Urban Planning and Design in Lübeck that seeks to explore the various current dynamics and challenges affecting our cities today. This year‘s focus is on how our urban heritage, including the built environment but also cultural, socio-economic and local values, can adapt and evolve in the context of climate change.
Lübeck as a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an ideal location for this study. In an exploratory format - the Changing Cities Lab - Bachelor students from diverse backgrounds are encouraged to conduct research and on-site experiments to develop contextualized adapatation strategies that work with Lübeck’s tangible and intangible heritage.
The programme includes theoretical inputs from local experts and international lecturers, as well as workshops to equip the students with methods and tools for change. Working in small groups, the students will first focus on a selected aspect of change before joining their findings and collaboratively developing a strategy or project for one of the case study sites.
The program comprises of two parallel parts:
- CHANGING CITIES LAB: a 11 days summer school for Bachelor students of urban planning, architecture and related fields (15 to 25 July)
- CHANGING CITIES FORUM: a four-day research colloquium targeted at Master students, PhD and professors (22 to 25 July)
Both parts will culminate in a joint format where the students present their work, and it is discussed by experts in a wider context.
