Background
The topic of digital urban development and smart cities has gained considerable importance, and not only in Lübeck. In addition to the long-standing activities of the universities, the city has launched further initiatives with its own activities and the activities and the founding of the ‘Energiecluster Digitales Lübeck’ association. However, there is a lack of knowledge, expertise and skills among the general population, to participate in the activities, e.g. to implement their own developments and applications.
Objectives and approach
As part of the SmartCityLab, which promotes hardware / software work in the areas of Internet of Things (IoT) / Smart City, three different activities are from the University of Lübeck TH Lübeck offered:
Workshops in which concepts and practical skills are taught over the course of several sessions are taught over several sessions (1.5 hours per week). Example topics: Development and operation of smart city platforms, AI applications based on smart city platforms. Target group: Pupils, students, interested citizens
Open Lab as independent work with supervision/help in the SmartCityLab, as a supplement to the workshop series, but also just with your own projects. Target group: All interested persons
Individual presentations, primarily on socially relevant topics. Target group: Citizens of all age groups

In our workshops, you will learn step by step how to set up a complete IoT platform. We will show you everything - from connecting the sensors and processing the data to visualising it in clear dashboards. This will give you the knowledge you need to successfully implement your own IoT projects.
In the Open Lab, you have the opportunity to develop creative ideas alone or in a team and put them into practice. Who knows - maybe the next big smart city project that will shape the future of your city will be created here?
Presentations
Experts will give exciting presentations on various smart city topics in the transition house, followed by an open Q&A session. The dates can be viewed in the DLC Hub and directly in the Transition House and will be announced in good time.
