83rd CoSA-Seminar on November, 28th

The 83rd CoSA seminar will be held on November, 28th 2022 at 11:45am in room 17-01.03

The CoSA seminar will be held on November, 28th 2022 at 11:45am in room 17-01.03.

We have planned the following presentations:

  • Garrett Mulkerin: Gas Source Localization with Neural Networks and Mobile Robotics

Presentations will last approximately 20 minutes followed by 10 minutes of discussion. We look forward to a lively and active participation.

The seminars can also be found at https://www.th-luebeck.de/cosa/. If you would like to offer a talk as well, please feel free to contact us (fabian.john(at)th-luebeck.de).

Garrett Mulkerin: Gas Source Localization with Neural Networks and Mobile Robotics
Robotic systems are increasingly popular for industrial application. While many robots replace a task-based position in a facility, there is a market for autonomous safety and maintenance to keep systems or environments monitored efficiently. AI-based imaging in robots allows a diagnosis that has clearly visible features, however, some problems could be detected earlier or more efficiently by analyzing the presence of gases in the environment. With a set of gas sensors, an artificial nose could be created and connected to a mobile robot. The nose detects the direction and the source of gases. This nose mounted on a mobile robot reduces risks for employees and the robot could accessing more locations due to its smaller size. The discovered information like gas sources is sent to a system for evaluation or is processed by the mobile robotic system itself.
